Canning Workshop - January 11, 2023
The Yes! You CAN: Preserving Food Safely program will be held on Wednesday, January 11th from 6-7pm at the Farm Bureau Building in Lewistown. In addition to the program, attendees can bring their dial pressure canner lid with them and Extension staff will test it for free!
Wouldn’t it be nice to enjoy your garden or farmers market produce all year long? Whether just starting out, or updating your food preservation knowledge, join us for a free program all about canning. You’ll learn the step-by-step process to canning with a boiling water bath canner and pressure canner. Get your food preservation questions answered and you’ll be entered to win door prizes.
Did you know that dial-gauge pressure canners need to be tested once a year? Over time, a dial gauge’s calibration can become inaccurate and show an incorrect pressure. If the pressure is even slightly lower than recommended, the internal temperature of the food will not be high enough to kill harmful bacteria and microorganisms, which can lead to spoilage or build-up of toxins from Clostridium botulinum. So be prepared for next summer’s preservation season safely by bringing your canner lid along to get tested.
To register, call the Fulton County Farm Bureau office at 547-3011. Please leave a message if you do not reach a person when you call! A minimum number is required to hold the class so PLEASE call before Friday, January 6th.
AMEREN UTILITY BRUNCH AND LEARN January 11th.

Door Prizes, giveaways, and of course takeaway brochures will be on hand during/after the event.

THINKING ABOUT THE UNTHINKABLE SEMINAR - February 23rd
The Young Leader Committee will sponsor a “Thinking About the Unthinkable” seminar on Thursday, February 23rd. The event starts at 5:30pm at the Farm Bureau Building in Lewistown. It includes a light supper and will conclude by 7:30pm. There is no charge.
Young folks often don’t think about what might happen if an accident or illness takes them (or their spouse) from the family. We’re calling young families to come visit with local lawyer Nicholas Tinsman about wills, basic estate planning, guardianship provisions for minor children, and the importance of these instruments for young families.
Country Financial Reps from Fulton County will briefly discuss college savings plans and the importance of adequate, affordable life insurance protections.
We are keeping it very informal and no sales pitches; just sound, simple advice to protect those that depend on you now and for their futures! Please register by calling 547-3011 before Friday, February 17th.
