The Fulton County Farm Bureau offers a variety of programs and events for all segments of our membership!  We invite you to attend events that are of interest to you and encourage you to lend your talents to our organization by volunteering for committees that appeal to you.


 Fulton County Farm Bureau’s (FCFB) Summer Ag. Institute (SAI) is scheduled for June 19, 20, and 21.  This summer’s topic is “Niche Farming/Specialty Crops” and includes incredible field trips, as well as classroom and hands-on instruction. 

Field trips are expected to include the hops farm, a lavender farm, an egg farm, beekeeping, apple orchard, CSA (community supported agriculture), a nursery/greenhouse, a reindeer farm, and a seed distribution and treatment business.  All will be within Fulton and McDonough Counties.

Participants will also meet staff from Illinois Ag in the Classroom and commodity groups, will receive resources and activities for the classroom, and will learn about the surprising diversity of specialty crops and products in our area.

The target audience is Pre-K through 12th grade area educators.  Professional Development clock hours provided for participation.  The cost is $75 per person and financial assistance will be available from the FCFB Women’s Committee for Fulton County teachers.  The charge includes all meals, transportation for field trips, and materials.  The program is cosponsored by the FCFB and the McDonough CFB.

Marketing Club

The meeting is held the 3rd Tuesday at the Farm Bureau Building in Lewistown.  On rare occasions, the club cancels the meeting due to field work.

 The Fulton County Farm Bureau, together with IFB, Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, and the University of Illinois College of Agricultural Consumer and Environmental Sciences (ACES), will host a field day Wednesday, June 13 to showcase research being conducted by the MWRD on water quality and nutrient loss reduction.

The field day, which will be held at 15779 County Road 5 (Cuba/Canton Blacktop), Cuba, Ill., will cover topics including:

  • Woodchip bioreactor installation;
  • Drainage water management and runoff reuse;
  • Vegetative buffer strips;
  • Cover crop interseeding; and
  • Soil health.

The field day will begin at 9 a.m. and conclude at 1 p.m.; lunch will be provided at no cost. The event is free, but attendees are asked to register through the Fulton County Farm Bureau by calling 309-547-3011 or emailing  

Farm Safety Day Camp Is June 15

This year’s Farm Safety Day Camp will be held on Friday, June 15, at the Mason County Fair Grounds in Havana, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  This is jointly sponsored by University of Illinois Extension in Fulton and Mason Counties and Fulton County and Mason County Farm Bureaus.  There is no charge to attend, but pre-registration is required, by June 8.

Topics covered will include Livestock and Animals, Fire, Food, Weather, Cyber/Personal, Water and Boating, Electricity, and Natural Gas.  There will be a Live Line demonstration as the finale.
